THE GILDED AGE

We're now watching the TV series The Gilded Age. (It's the creation of Julian Fellowes, who also made Downton Abbey, which I've never watched.) It has lavish production values, and it's pretty fun.  The New York elite of the 1880s remind me of school-kids who want to become part of the cool group...

Yesterday I saw Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth (for the first time) in a 20th-anniversary release at the Yonge & Dundas.  It's everything they say!  Very, very imaginative...

Afterward I went to another Social Club 150 event.  This time we formed discussion groups and talked about things like our favourite cartoon series and where we'd go in a time machine. (I'd go to the time just before World War I changed everything, a period that particularly fascinates me.) Very enjoyable.  Becoming a member turns out to be easier than I thought.

I've been freshening up on my Latin at the website tylatin.org .  It's a supplement to the book Teach Yourself Latin, similar to a site I've used for Ancient Greek.

I've started the Facebook computer game Heroes of History, but now I'm stuck at a battle I can't win.  I'm still doing the Taonga game, but I don't know how much longer I'll stick with it...

I had a new credit card to break in, so I bought a book of New York Times Saturday crossword puzzles! (They're the toughest ones.)
